President's Message 2004
Hello everyone, my name is Tom Scally and I am the new president of the Edmondson Heights Civic Association. As many of you know, this past year has seen the Association embark on an effort to reduce the friction between the youth and the adults in this community. Hopefully this will continue this year, but only with your help. The same people can not take on new responsibilities therefore it is important that everyone, young and old alike, come out and get involved. One of the most important things to remember is responsibility. Parents YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for your children and their actions. If your child destroys property, you are financially responsible; if your child hurts someone, you are financially responsible and are subject to suit in court. Additionally, let it been known that Maryland law allows for certain groups to seize houses if that house is a public nuisance i.e. drug dealing. Another area of responsibility is obeying the laws that the elected officials that you elected have placed in force. One of the most common violations seen is parking on the wrong side of the street. This is illegal and as some of our residents know, expensive. The simple rule is, park in the direction of travel. If the street is two ways, then park on the right! Also, last year during the big snow storm, people were parking any which way, that is illegal. If you have a car, then you have the responsibility for seeing that it has a legal parking space. Now for moral responsibility, If you have elderly neighbors, help them clear their sidewalks! Finally, your responsibility for following the covenants. There are currently several homes within the community with violations of the covenants . Most, if not all those residents have been notified of a possible violation. They have been asked to
